WORKERS & VOLUNTEERS

ROLES & RESOURCES

Blossom-flower-600px.png

We are so grateful for the generosity of all our staff and volunteers, Blossom Festival simply would not be a possibility if it wasn’t for the people that put their hand up to volunteer each year.

Roughly around 200 volunteers are involved in helping to create the magic of Blossom Festival. Our volunteers work to not just create our event, but to keep us all comfortable, happy, well-fed and safe. From our BDSM Site Crew (Blossom Department of Site Management) who are responsible for the building and management of our festivals infrastructure, to the Blossom Rangers who keep us safe and help participants when they find themselves in need of assistance; there are plenty of ways to be involved as a volunteer at Blossom.

VOLUNTEER CREWS

What kind of volunteer positions are available at Blossom Festival?

BDSM SITE CREW BUILD & PACKDOWN

The Blossom Department of Site Management (BDSM) Site Crew are the Volunteers with the skills, drills and who give our site crews tummy all the fills. They are the first to arrive on-site & the last to leave.

The Blossom site is brought to life during a 3 week period in September that we call the ‘build’. Generally speaking, the build officially starts on the first or second weekend in September, with the majority of the crew arriving the weekend before the event, helping to layout, build, beautify and prepare our luscious paddock for the upcoming event. BDSM build volunteers then get to take the rest of the event off to enjoy the fruits of their labour. Upon closure of the event on Monday morning, the Pack Down Crew joins us, staying for a few extra days to a week, before returning to the default world.

Build roles are mostly project orientated and require a bigger time commitment than festival volunteer roles. Most build volunteers will find themselves working for at least 3 days across the build and pack down periods.

While there are no special qualifications volunteers are required to hold to participate on our BDSM Crew, there are a few tickets and licenses that are always handy:

White card

First Aid Certification or higher

Forklift, Tele-handler, other plant operating tickets

Elevating Work Platform ticket

Working at Heights ticket

Safe Food Handling

Due to the physical demands on our Build and Pack Down crews, we do our very best to secure fresh volunteers for pack down. So if you know you will only be available for one of those periods, we are happy to work with your availability and to ensure we have the coverage we need over both periods.

BDSM - DECOR

The Blossom Decor crew work primarily through the build period and are responsible for the distribution and creation of the decor around the stages, Lifestyle Village & other areas of the event site.

BDSM - EVENT TEAM

The BDSM Event crew operates from 12pm Friday till 12pm Monday and all BDSM Event crew are required to complete a minimum of 2 x 4hr shifts. Every shift will be a little bit different and tasks will change as the needs of the event change. Some tasks you can expect to complete are:

Cutting & distributing wood

Transporting equipment

General maintenance

Filling generators

Restocking toilet paper and hand sanitiser

BDSM - WASTE MANAGEMENT TEAM

The Blossom Waste Management Team is part of our Blossom Department of Site Management crew, and operates during the event period. Their duties include driving a site vehicle, collecting waste from our designated points and transporting it back to our Waste Management Zone for sorting and storage.

We understand this isn’t always the most glamorous of crews and has an added safety aspect when handling dirty rubbish. Therefore, a hot shower will be provided to you upon completion of each shift to get you fresh and ready to head back to the dancefloor.

KITCHEN CREW

In order to have a high functioning build and pack down crew, our crew needs to be well feed.  If you have experience working in or know your way around a kitchen, we are looking for keen and clean kitchen hands to work with our head chef.
